Department of Correspondence Courses

A note about the Department

   The Department of Correspondence Courses, Punjabi University, Patiala is a pioneer institute, imparting education through the distance education mode. Established in the year 1968 it remains the second institution of its kind in the country and the second to have offered regional language as medium of instruction and examination. Since then the Department has made significant contribution in the field of higher education by providing quality education at the door step of the learner. At present the Department is running 33 academic Programmes and the average strength of the Department per year varies between 10000 to 12000.

   The success of our system is borne out by the excellent results shown by our students at the various University examinations during the preceding years.

    The Department has been functioning so successfully that it is now regarded as one of the most progressive institutions of correspondence education in India and has made a name even in the international sphere, which is amply evident from the fact that students from abroad have also taken admission to the courses being run by it. The Department plans to start Master's in Women Studies and M.Phil. in the subject of Punjabi, English and Hindi from the current session. 

                                 Some of the Salient Features of our Correspondence Courses are:  

  • Carefully planned lessons written by eminent scholars are supplied to the students in printed form in regular despatches.
  • Regular and efficient evaluation of Response-Sheets/Projects submitted by the students.
  • Personal Contact Programmes to provide intensive class room instructions, discussions and personal guidance to candidates.
  • Supply of text books, and other reading material from a well-equipped Departmental Library.
  • Library facility for the students at Library-cum-Study Centres established by the Department at Khalsa College Library, Amritsar; Punjabi Sahit Academy, Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhiana and Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda.
  • Supply of reference material for post-graduate candidates to supplement instructions imparted through lessons and lectures.
  • Suggested readings and important questions at the end of each lesson to motivate students to read independently and supplement their knowledge.
  • Merit Scholarships, National Merit Scholarships, National Loan Scholarship Scheme are available to the eligible candidates.
